A superb 18th Century antique oak coffer, a wonderfully sturdy and characterful piece with all the charm and honest wear you would hope to find in an antique of this age.
The coffer has a traditional two-plank hinged oak lid, (with wooden hinges), above a beautifully proportioned three-panelled front, fitted with two practical drawers to the base, retaining their original brass drop handles.
Raised on simple bracket feet, the chest retains its original timbers and original wooden peg hinges, adding greatly to its authenticity and appeal.
It has a lovely deep, aged oak patina with a beautifully silvered finish, the result of many years of careful polishing and use. The surface has developed a wonderful mellow character, with all the marks and wear that come naturally with genuine age.
A very useful and versatile piece, offering excellent storage while also working beautifully as a decorative piece of furniture. It would make an ideal blanket chest at the bottom of a bed, coffee table, toy box or general storage chest.
At 123cm wide, this is a particularly good-sized coffer with plenty of useful capacity.
