A striking antique English Regency fireside pole screen, dating from around 1820, beautifully crafted in rosewood and featuring a superb quality needlepoint tapestry panel.
This elegant and highly decorative piece displays all the charm and craftsmanship associated with the Regency period. The rosewood has developed a wonderful aged patina, with rich russet hues and attractive figuring throughout, and the piece remains in very good order.
The adjustable screen is fitted with a beautifully embroidered needlepoint panel, presented behind its original glass, depicting a charming foliate bouquet with delicate white beaded petals. The needlework is particularly attractive and makes this a wonderful decorative feature for beside a fireplace or within a period interior.
The pole is topped with a beautifully carved finial, while the distinctive frame features quality scroll carving to the corners. The slender supporting pole is adorned with gadrooned bulb carving, adding further decorative interest.
The screen stands upon a beautifully figured gently tapered circular base, raised on a trio of paw bun feet which are neatly semi-enclosed beneath the base. The combination of the rich rosewood, intricate carving and delicate needlepoint gives this piece a truly elegant and sophisticated appearance.
The screen height is adjustable within a range of approximately 68.5cm (27 inches), making it both decorative and practical.
