A beautiful limited edition print, pencil signed by Tom Dodgson, depicting what is believed to be a Coronation Day street party in Leigh, Lancashire. The local cotton mill stands proudly in the background, capturing the character and heritage of the town.
The artwork celebrates the day the new monarch was crowned, when schoolchildren enjoyed a special holiday and neighbours came together to celebrate. Long tables were set up along the middle of the street, while the mums busily prepared sandwiches, jelly and custard for everyone to enjoy.
The streets were decorated with colourful paper streamers and flowers, and competitions were held to find the best-decorated street. Traditional races and games brought the whole community together, with parents joining in the fun. Sack races, skipping races and other games often ended with everyone collapsing in laughter, making it a memorable day for young and old alike.
