She was commissioned by John “Jock” Willis, determined to own the fastest ship in the annual race to bring the first tea of the season home from China. The name Cutty Sark means “short shirt” and originates from Robert Burns’ poem “Tam O’Shanter”, in which Tam spies the witch Nannie wearing a cutty sark as she dances.
