We are delighted to offer this very rare Victorian Scottish chest of six drawers, dating from around 1850 — a substantial and beautifully crafted piece that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Standing at an impressive 126cm tall, this is not a lightweight reproduction or modern imitation. It has the presence, craftsmanship and unmistakable character of genuine 19th-century furniture.
The chest is constructed in beautifully figured flame mahogany, with the drawer fronts displaying exceptional grain and rich, warm colour. It features six graduated drawers, each fitted with finely turned original-style mahogany knobs and hand-cut dovetail joints, demonstrating the quality of workmanship expected from a piece of this age.
Adding considerably to its character are the stunning turned and hand-carved side pillars, which frame the chest beautifully and give it a wonderfully imposing Scottish Victorian appearance. It stands on a simple plinth with turned feet, completing the elegant design.
And then there is the storage…
Two discreet secret drawers are cleverly concealed within the upper section, adding a fantastic little piece of Victorian intrigue. Perfect for keeping valuables, documents or simply enjoying the fact that your antique chest has a secret or two.
The condition is exceptional for its age, retaining its original beautifully glazed French-polished finish. The surface has developed exactly the sort of depth, patina and richness that only comes with well over a century of age.
